Actually, I didn’t plan to finish writing this post today. I was planning to prepare around 90 ham-and-cheese pastries for Kenneth’s birthday party tomorrow, a pile of garlic-cheese rolls, make the cake, and boil potatoes and eggs for the salad.
I was also planning to do some serious cleaning, because Patrick has a friend coming from Estonia today who’ll be staying for a week. I wanted to get as many things done as possible by tomorrow… but then a thought popped into my head, one that visits me often. How much I hate this cancer. How much I hate the fact that I don’t have the strength.
I managed to stand in the kitchen for about two hours, prepping things, until I realized that if I didn’t sit down immediately, I would collapse on the floor.
I was also supposed to meet a friend today, but Elsa’s morning headache and staying home from school put an end to that plan. I’m really sorry we didn’t get to meet today, but we postponed it to another day. We’ll catch up then.
So what did all that morning enthusiasm of mine amount to in the end? I’m sitting here in an armchair now, or rather slouching in a half-reclined position, feeling like my heart wants to jump out of my chest. My body got exhausted. My body started aching. My ears are ringing and hurting. My hands are tingling, the hot flashes are back, tears are rising in my throat. And I’m thinking in horror about everything I still need to do. How am I supposed to manage?
I opened my laptop again. Luckily, there’s no work at the moment that can’t wait a bit. The necessary things are under control with clients, and there’s no point just staring at my inbox and twiddling my fingers. So I thought I’d continue a post I started yesterday, one with a more humorous tone. About boobs.
Sorry if this feels like pointless clutter to someone, but I started thinking about how Silvia Ilves’s lottery-millionaire husband will go down in celebrity gossip history as the man who bought her new boobs and a handbag. For those who don’t know, Silvia Ilves is a very talented cellist in Estonia who’s probably better known in gossip columns for the fact that her relationships don’t seem to last very long.
Yesterday I dropped that line into a friends’ group chat, and one member cheerfully shot back that there’s no shortage of such “sponsored boobs.” He gave an example of another Estonian influencer whose new boobs were bought by a businessman whose ex-wife has appeared in a singing competition or two. “Money is basically lying on the ground, how can you not pick it up?” my friend laughed.
Well, I don’t know whether it’s sad, funny, or sad-funny to go down in history like that. Or maybe it just shows how we don’t know how to pick up that money lying around. I scoffed at that and said that luckily, my boobs are paid for by insurance.
Of course, it will still take time before I get new breasts. Until then, I have to get used to the fact that sometimes I still feel the breast that was removed. The brain, for example, doesn’t remember that it’s gone. Sometimes the “breast” itches, sometimes I feel the urge to adjust it. Each time, I end up reminding my brain with mild surprise that it isn’t actually there anymore.
Maybe in a year the new one will be in place, and I’ll be able to adjust and scratch my breast as much as my heart desires.
