Väike valearvestus maksab nädala / A small miscalculation costs a week

Sain eile suure asjaga hakkama. Tegin algusest lõpuni üksi valmis kartulisalati. Jah, see on suur asi arvestades mu isutust, pidevat oksendamiseni ebameeldivaid iiveldushoogusid, mis kestavad tehelikult koguaeg. Lisaks sellele väsin ikka veel väga kiiresti. Tegin tegelikult salatit kolmes jaos.

Kuni need keesid, sain puhata ja Netflixist Hispaania sarja “Old Dog, New Tricks”.

See on selline kahe peaga lohe.

Lihtne, inimlik hirm. Lihtne, inimlik uudishimu, kas minuga on kõik juba korras.

Yesterday, I managed to pull off something big. I made a potato salad all by myself, from start to finish. Yes, that is a big deal, considering my lack of appetite and the constant, almost puke-inducing nausea that is basically always there. Not to mention how quickly I still get exhausted. I actually made the salad in three separate stages.

First, after a refreshing afternoon nap, I put the potatoes and eggs to boil (yes, no carrots — I’m not really allowed to indulge in carrots right now). While they were cooking, I rested and watched the Spanish series “Old Dog, New Tricks”on Netflix. Pretty funny vet show. Of course, I’m constantly trying to match the main character with our Spanish friends and acquaintances. But anyway…

In phase two, I managed to peel the potatoes and eggs, and chop them almost completely.
Then we headed to the hospital, I had to return the device that monitors my heart activity. I’ll get the test results next week when I see the cardiologist. When we got home, I was able to chop the rest and mix the salad together.

But let’s move on to next week. The mastectomy that was supposed to happen this Thursday will now be next Thursday instead.

Why? Because the surgeon initially misread the date of my last chemotherapy session and realized I could probably use another week to recover from chemo before the operation. It’s a bit of a double-edged sword. On one hand, I agree, the better shape I’m in, the smoother the recovery will likely be.

But on the other hand, I’m so ready for the surgery, because that’s when we finally learn where, if, and how much cancer is still left in my body, and what happens next. There’s this stupid fear inside me that if we just let a week pass doing nothing, the cancer could start spreading again and everything could go to shit. A simple, human fear. A simple, human curiosity to know if I’m finally okay.
