Need pealkirjaks olevad sõnad lausus David ühele meie sõbrale mõni päev tagasi, aimamata, et see saab tõeks. Kuus päeva tagasi sain teise keemiaraviskeemi esimese doosi.
Kas sellest on üldse kellelegi mingit abi. Kas see on üldse oluline.
Sama on toiduga.
Ausalt öeldes on see igati hea mõte.
Mulle meeldivad need klotsikesed.
Proovisin okserallit ennetada vett juues. Üks väike lonks korraga, üks hingetõmme korraga.
Üks, üks, üks…. See läks õnneks!
Jalad on külmad, pea on kuum.
Helistasin vahepeal Triinule, sest tekkis selgusehetk, mille jooksul sain aru, et võib vabalt juhtuda, et ma pole võimeline tegema esmaspäeval tööd, aga tahtsin kellelegi kurta. Kurtmine läks üle nutuks. Sest see kõik on lihtsalt nii väsitav. “Tahan sellest filmist välja astuda,” ütlesin talle.
Kõik need üles-alla päevad, kõik need kõrvalmõjud, kõik see ajuudu. Ma ei jaksa, ma ei taha. Ma tahan olla terve. Tahan mängida oma lastega, tahan vaadata Davidiga koos sarju, tahan näha sõpru, tahan suhelda, tahan, tahan, tahan.
Aga praegu jälle ei jaksa. Olen voodis edasi.

These words in the title were spoken by David to one of our friends a few days ago, without realizing they would come true. Six days ago, I received the first dose of my second chemotherapy regimen. At times it feels like it has gone by in the blink of an eye, at times it feels like it dragged on like a lost snail crawling across asphalt.
I don’t even know if what I’m writing is my chemotherapy and cancer diary, something that might be interesting to read later to remember, or if it’s just pointless rambling. Whether it’s of any use to anyone at all. Whether it even matters. If it helps even one person understand what a cancer patient feels, or if it helps a fellow sufferer, then maybe I have achieved my goal.
When I thought Friday morning that a bad day was ahead, I was happily very wrong. The day was good. Somehow I had energy. I managed to cook a little twice. In the evening, I watered the plants in the garden. Inside, I managed to water most of the plants as well. If only I could take better care of them too. But that will have to wait for another day. I’m simply happy that Friday was a good day. By eight in the evening, actually already by seven, I was tired, my body started to shake, my legs no longer wanted to carry me, and the hot flashes grew more intense.
I realized I wanted to drink chamomile tea with lemon and honey. I let it cool before drinking. But I have to be careful when drinking. I still have this annoying problem that whenever I take a sip, the liquid tends to go down the wrong way, and then I either spit the drink back into the cup — best case – or all over the place – worst case. It’s not nice at all, and it happens far too often already.
The same with food. Food tends to get stuck somewhere in my throat in the wrong place, making me choke like crazy. I also coughed like mad one night when I had once again rolled onto my back to sleep and something went wrong with my breathing. Sleeping on my back is a problem in general. I never used to sleep on my back, but now I often find myself waking up that way because I can’t breathe.
For a while I watched different series and movies to make lying down more entertaining, but now I’ve discovered I don’t want to look at the screen anymore. I read a lot, but reading makes me tired. Then I nap, read a bit, nap, read again. But even that has become tiresome. Everything is tiresome.
Helin suggested I should take up some kind of handicraft. Honestly, it’s a good idea. Except I’m not exactly skilled in crafts. Still, why not try? But where to begin? Crocheting? Knitting? Sewing would be too big of a project right now. How would I even know what size crochet hook or knitting needles and yarn to buy? Luckily, I have Sirli, the craft wizard, who can tell me what and how.
Then I had another idea – LEGO! I love those little bricks. I’d like to build some big, impressive Lego set. But right now, buying a big Lego seems a bit like having a party during the plague. I need to save money for surgeries, more chemo is still ahead, and treatment continues even after surgery.
On Saturday morning I woke at 4 with terrible nausea. In truth, I had slept badly all night. Strange dreams, breathing problems, and now this awful feeling. I went to the bathroom, took an anti-nausea pill, and realized sleep was completely gone. But I was unbearably tired. No position was comfortable. So I just sat on the edge of the bed fighting hot flashes and nausea. At some point I realized I needed to keep a bowl close.
I tried to prevent the vomiting rally by sipping water. One small sip at a time, one breath at a time.
One, one, one… It worked!
I turned off the light, crawled into bed, and lay on my back. Suddenly I was freezing, wrapped myself tightly in the blanket, and waited patiently for things to get even a little better. Sometimes I couldn’t tell if the nausea had eased or come back even stronger. But I decided to keep my eyes closed and see what happens.
At some point after five I fell asleep, because I remember hearing the garbage truck clattering by. I know it comes around five in the morning.
At 7 a.m. I was awake again. Still unwell, body trembling badly, nausea. My mouth was drier than the Sahara desert. I drifted through Saturday in a haze. Most of the time in bed, not knowing whether I was asleep or awake. Somewhere in between. Is this the “Red Devil” doing this to me? Overwhelming nausea, sore throat, stomach pain, earache, muscle pain, joint pain, the feeling I’m about to fall ill. Hot and cold at the same time. Strength completely gone.
Somehow Saturday passed, but I don’t really remember much of it. At some point I fell into night sleep, but woke up repeatedly. Woke up from pain, nausea, or some other sensation. Had strange dreams from the end of the world to an Ozzy Osbourne concert, where for some reason I was his daughter Kelly.
I woke on Sunday morning after ten, but it felt like I hadn’t really slept at all. Even now, writing these lines, I’m lying in bed, in pain. My right side hurts, my throat hurts, my head hurts, my shoulder hurts, my chest hurts. Actually my chest and shoulder on the left side hurt too. As do my stomach and side. Everything hurts.
You know that feeling when your stomach aches because of a terrible stomach virus. And you know the feeling when you’re terribly constipated. Now combine those two feelings. That’s the pain I had both Saturday and Sunday morning. Everything aches, everything twists. On top of that, my right breast, shoulder, armpit, and side hurt. My throat hurts, I’m still weak. My feet are cold, my head is hot.
I called Triin at one point, because I had a moment of clarity when I realized I might not be able to work on Monday, but I wanted to complain to someone. The complaining turned into crying. Because this is all just so exhausting. “I want to step out of this movie,” I told her.
All these ups and downs, all these side effects, all this brain fog. I can’t, I don’t want to. I just want to be healthy. I want to play with my children, I want to watch series with David, I want to see friends, I want to connect, I want, I want, I want.
But right now, again, I can’t. I stay in bed.
