“Marta vastas, kallis.
- Paremas rinnas, koos:
- lümfisõlmede haaratusega (metastaasid kaenlaalustes ganglionides),
- põletikuliste tunnustega (IBC ehk põletikuline rinnavähk – carcinoma inflamatório da mama),
- naha paksenemine, punetus, valulikkus, krobeline pind,
- biopsiaproovidest leitud nii kõvasid kui vedelaid piirkondi,
- ja mammogrammil ning ultrahelis viidatud ebaühtlasele kujule.
Mingil hetkel mõtlesin tegelikult, et äkki on mu uus parim sõber midagi valesti mõistnud. Äkki on doktor Marta asjast valesti aru saanud.
Üks on kindel, mul on invasiivse kuluga kolmiknegatiivne rinnavähk.
See on nüüd eelviimane nn meenutus. Üks on veel – MRI tegemine. See oli nagu reivilkäik. Aga sellest juba uues postituses.
Nüüd tuleb oodata neljapäeva, et täpne raviplaan teada saada.

“Marta replied, darling. She’s trying to move all the appointments forward.”
My first thought was: of course I want everything moved forward. I want everything now. I want to know what it is and how soon I’ll be healthy again.
So, what is it that I have?
Breast cancer in my right breast, with metastases in the lymph nodes under my right arm.
The surgeon was already expecting me later that same day. I had also received the test results myself. I fed them into my new best friend – an AI assistant – and asked it to make sense of a pile of medical Portuguese.
“Triple-negative breast cancer,” came the answer after a moment of analysis.
Triple-negative invasive breast cancer (TNBC) means that the cancer cells don’t have estrogen or progesterone receptors, nor an overexpression of the HER2 protein.
It’s in my right breast, along with:
- lymph node involvement (metastases in the axillary lymph nodes),
- inflammatory signs (IBC – inflammatory breast cancer or carcinoma inflamatório da mama),
- thickened skin, redness, pain, a rough, dimpled surface,
- biopsy samples that revealed both hard and fluid-filled areas,
- and irregular structure noted on both mammogram and ultrasound.
At some point I actually started wondering whether my new best friend had misunderstood something. Maybe Dr. Marta had misunderstood something. Maybe this wasn’t even the final diagnosis, and by some miracle, I’d wake up healthy tomorrow. Or that the whole thing was just a bad joke.
That evening I went to the surgeon’s appointment with Helin. David stayed home with the kids.
It was the first day everything started to feel a little blurry.
I remember the doctor saying they still couldn’t confirm whether it was inflammatory breast cancer or the exact extent of the tumor – more tests were needed. One thing was certain: I had triple-negative invasive breast cancer.
I told the doctor that over the past few weeks, I’d actually been feeling worse. My underarm and breast hurt more, I was even more tired, out of energy.
Honestly, I don’t remember everything the doctor said. I just know that now I’m waiting for Thursday.
There’s a medical board meeting on Wednesday – that’s when they’ll put together my treatment plan. On Thursday, I’ll meet my oncologist. Until then, I just have to hold on and stay positive. Even though my breast, underarm, shoulder, and arm hurt more. That strange “my arm is going numb” feeling has also become more frequent.
But what did Helin and I do next? We went to the burger shack next to the hospital and bought giant burgers with three patties. We celebrated the beginning of this journey and made a promise: that when this is all over and I’m healthy again, we’ll come back and eat the same burgers and celebrate once more.
This is the second-to-last memory in this chapter. One more to go – the MRI. That felt like a trip to a rave. But more on that in the next post.
Now, all that’s left is to wait for Thursday to find out my treatment plan.
