See kestis teisipäeva lõunani.
Mida see teisipäevane lõunaunega tekkinud entusiasm tähendab?
Nagu mu psühholoog ütleb, suurim ebakõla on just minu enda peas.

On March 3, it was International Triple Negative Breast Cancer Day. Not a day of celebration, but a day to raise awareness. I also want to raise your awareness by saying: go and get checked.
But that’s not actually what I wanted to talk about. I wanted to talk about clothes and overdoing things. Those two wonderful days last weekend, spent doing garden work, came with a high price that I’m still paying a little bit for. On Monday I was in such bad shape that I only got out of bed to go to the bathroom. I had a high fever and my whole body hurt. It hurt so much that even the spaces between my toes were painful.
During the night I developed terrible nausea. It lasted until Tuesday lunchtime. The headache, the nausea and the slight weakness are still lingering. One thing, however, has improved significantly, I can move again. Naturally, against that background, an irresistible urge to be active appeared immediately. I want to work, clean, and, let’s be honest, go into the garden. In the second half of Tuesday I did all of those things.
What does that enthusiasm that appeared after Tuesday’s nap mean? It means that I’m stupid and don’t learn. Or maybe I do learn. I was half-lying in bed with my laptop on my lap and promised myself that before four o’clock I wouldn’t stop resting, which my body clearly needed. “I’ll do some writing, read, but I’ll stay in bed,” I thought to myself. “I’ll only get up to cook. I have to let my body recover, because actually my neck, the surgical scar, my armpit, my back, my head – oh, my whole body – still hurts.” Ha-ha, sure, I stayed in bed that long. Of course I didn’t!
I was running around both outside and inside, and Wednesday hasn’t been any better. In the morning I opened my laptop and started working; in between I washed laundry and even tried to clean. It almost worked.
While eating lunch I watched yet another show about cosmetic surgery and other beauty procedures, because, as Kirsti Timmer says, “taking care of yourself is dignified ageing, and not taking care of yourself is poor ageing.” Wait, does what she’s saying basically mean that if you don’t have threads put under your facial skin or something cut, then that’s poor ageing, meaning you’re not taking care of yourself?
At this point I should say that I’m not against cosmetic surgery or procedures. Not at all. I’ve thought about them a lot, even too much. I’m the one who is impatiently waiting for my new boobs. I dream about them, I dream about the day when I can once again walk into a room confidently with two breasts.
At the same time, I don’t think cosmetic procedures are some terrible evil. But the message that without them you are somehow worthless — that’s another matter. Do we really all have to end up as identical, pumped-up catwomen?
You can’t imagine how insecure I feel right now. I don’t have one breast, I’m swollen, I’m overweight. I’m ashamed of myself, ashamed even in front of my husband, and sometimes afraid to show myself to him.
I stand in front of the mirror, look at myself and think: oh hell, what could he possibly see in me right now? As my psychologist says, the biggest conflict exists only in my own head. I don’t love myself at the moment, but I have to learn to love myself again. I feel ashamed, but I have to get over it. She even claims that I’m beautiful. From which angle, I asked her the last time.
She said: from every angle. She talked about how beautiful I am inside and outside. She spoke about how big my heart is, how caring I am, how I talk about my husband with admiration even when we are arguing or when I think that…
Uh, I don’t know. Anyway, speaking about the external façade, I increasingly get the impression that without cosmetic surgery you’re seen as some kind of old, worn-out person… it’s quite sad what kind of message we’re sending, especially to children – that you are not naturally beautiful.
Another thing that bothered me in Timmer’s comments was the idea that “at the table you should keep your mouth shut,” and how she eventually didn’t even eat cabbage leaves from the soup because it helped her get closer to her goal of weighing the same as she did decades ago.
True, of course you don’t have to eat constantly all the time, but is that always the reason for weight gain? Could there also be other reasons?
I’d like to say here that it sounded a lot like my nutritionist, who blames me every time for eating sweets and other things, without knowing or listening to the fact that I don’t do it in the way she assumes.
I pay close attention to what I put into my mouth. Some days I realize I haven’t really eaten much at all — but I also can’t eat because I feel so nauseous. Yes, I’ll have a piece of chocolate, and imagine this — sometimes I eat fruit with whipped cream because the craving is just that strong.
One nutritionist who works with cancer patients told me that if you have a craving, then eat. It won’t do you any harm, and it’s not like you’re eating it all the time or in kilos. But from another one, the one who weighs me every month, I’d probably get scolded for it. I already get scolded anyway, because I’ve only lost four kilos.
I am (still) sick, I’m undergoing treatment, and there are days when I don’t eat anything at all because I feel so awful that I simply can’t. But to claim that not eating shows how disciplined you are, and that a fat person is always unhappy…
Okay, Timmer, you’re right — I’m fat and unhappy! I guess I have nothing more to say.
